I\u2019ll put more information about the full video on online school at the end of this video.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">EH plus R, like in \u2018air\u2019.\u00a0 This is written with a schwa in between, but as you might already know the R is a syllabic consonant, it overpowers the schwa, so you don&#8217;t need to worry about making uh&#8211;, a schwa sound seperate from the R.\u00a0 First, let\u2019s take the word AIR and break into just the sounds EH and schwa-R.\u00a0 EH,r rr.\u00a0 EH, rr.\u00a0 EHrr, EHrr.\u00a0 That\u2019s not really how we pronounce the word &#8216;air&#8217;. It doesn\u2019t sound quite right to me.\u00a0 Air. Air. That&#8217;s how I pronounce it. Not ehrr&#8211; but air. Eh- ey- air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It\u2019s a little more closed than a pure EH.\u00a0 Let\u2019s take a look at a few other people.\u00a0 How are they pronouncing the word?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I\u2019m going\u00a0 to go to Forvo, which is a website where people can record words.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good place to go hear several different takes on the same word.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to listen to the United States speakers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Air, ey, ey, air. They\u2019re all the same as me.\u00a0 The opening sound is more closed than a pure EH.\u00a0 Let\u2019s slow down the sound.\u00a0 Aaaaaaiiiiiirrr.\u00a0 It\u2019s sort of like an AY diphthong.\u00a0 Not exactly like it, but close.\u00a0 Aaaaaaaiiiiirr.\u00a0 Air, air, air.\u00a0 One mistake that is sometimes made is this:\u00a0 err.\u00a0 There\u2019s no feeling of a vowel before the R.\u00a0 The thing you must do is leave your tongue tip forward at the beginning:\u00a0 aaiir.\u00a0 Then you can pull it back for the R.\u00a0 But if your tongue tip is pulled back from the beginning, it\u2019s just going to sound like er.\u00a0 Air, air. Tongue tip forward.
